A few weeks ago, we shared that
we will be discontinuing service and support for Mint Quickview for
Mac. Effective today, November 10, that service and support
will end and app log-ins will result in an error message.
We understand that this change may be an inconvenience, so while
you will no longer be able to access your Mint account via the app you can
continue to track your finances using the Mint Web, iOS or Android app.
***End Update***
We will be discontinuing support and development for QuickView,
the Mint Mac OS desktop app.
We’ve promised to hold ourselves to the highest standard of
quality in our products, and strongly believe that shifting our efforts to the
Mint Web, iOS and Android applications will help us deliver above and beyond
that promise. There’s so much about QuickView that we love - and it’s
hard for us to say goodbye to it - but we are confident that this change will
help you get even more out of Mint.
What’s next? All of your QuickView information will
continue to be available to you across the Mint ecosystem, so it’s super easy
to continue to stay on top of your finances. Simply log into your account via
the Mint Web, iOS or Android app.
Really?? This is why I use Mint... it's what makes Mint quick and easy for Mac users. Having to login to yet another website, just opens the doors to see what else is out there that's more convenient.
How is this helpful to us users? I NEVER use the mobile app! The mobile app is useless to me because I manage my finances from my desktop. A Mac! Worst decision EVER!!! Time to find a different product.
This is disappointing. Mint QuickView on Mac is the primary way that I access my mint account. This change will NOT help me get more out of Mint, but it will make it more difficult to access and review my Mint account.
Navient connections never work and removing these features are just another reason to start searching for another options. It was good while it lasted.
Looks like a bad product decision for user to me. Pretty unrealistic to expect from the user to navigate to a browser tab or the iOS app several times a day to spot fraudulent charges on his cards. If the lack of revenue from missing advertisements in the quickview is the problem has it been considered to turn quickview into a payed app in the app-store?
The responses are rolling in fast and furious! All disagree with this bad decision. Is anyone going to respond? Or better yet realize they screwed up in making this decision?
The quick view in the corner of my Mac's screen is really the ONLY way I use Mint. The app on my iPhone has never worked well for me, and the quickview on my Mac has always been reliable and kept me using your service. I always check it every morning when I get to work. I am very disappointed in this decision and will probably discontinue your service if you are discontinuing your quickview for the Mac.
Very sorry to hear it. Quick View is the feature I utilize most. Mint for IOS can't compare. Quick View has been indispensable, especially since mint won't sync with Quicken. I feel like mint continues to use bait and switch tactics, luring us in with a feature and then arbitrarily discontinuing it when we've come to rely on it. Either you're not getting feedback from your customers or self employed writers and artists like me aren't your target customer. Change for the sake of change or because your programmers are bored is not a good thing It's been grand. Farewell.
I am thinking they have thought through this decision long and hard, the business folks and probably not the programmers. (I am guessing he programmers are pretty bummed about this decision too, they might have lost their jobs) This is a free tool that we use here. I love MINT and Quick View. But for only 5% of the population (MAC users) I am guessing they could not see it fitting into the model to be viable. I wish Quick View would stay but MINT is FREE (minus the promotions). The core of MINT still exist and I will continue to use it to help me sort all of my financial fun. THANK YOU MINT!
Horrible decision! The fact that I had access across all of my devises, including my MAC, was the biggest reason I enjoyed your product. With this development you become nothing more than another app on my iPhone. I will be looking for other alternatives to fit my needs. The ride has been fun. Much luck on your future endeavors. I hope you make better decisions in the future.
Dear Mint Team, The quickview is really the mainstay of my daily Mint use. I really love this product, and want to be able to interface with Mint right from my mac desktop. Please reconsider this move as it's clearly a product loved by many of your users!!
It won't help us get more out of Mint. No, they're hoping to drive traffic to horrible garbage products like Quicken and Quickbooks, which feel like something from the turn of the century.
Well, INTUIT, it's not 2001 anymore, Quicken is garbage, and you should all burn in hell. Now let's go and negatively review every single INTUIT product out there, and make fun of anyone using these products. Starting with Quicken, that vast pile of steaming dog turds.
"We've promised to hold ourselves to the highest standard of quality in our products" REALLY??? Can't even print any simple net worth statement after all this time...now this move? Bad!
No. No, they're not. There are a multitude of free desktop apps run by much smaller less otherwise monetized companies. If this is what this move is about, Mint deserves to lose everybody.
Please don't drop the QuickView app! It's the primary way I keep track of my finances and by being right in my toolbar, is something I can keep on top of really easily. It's very visible, easy to remember and easy to interact with. Becoming another app I have to remember to check on my phone among the many others will make it much more difficult to manage my finances!
You're kidding! What a rip. No suggestions on another software other than "go to the mint site." I'm looking for another type of monitoring system. If Mint can't stay up to speed on this, I'm not confident they will do so in other areas. Their explanation is weak. There's got to be more behind the scenes. Goodbye to Mint.
I'm just finding this out from chat support as my Quickview app stopped working. Big fail by you guys. You will lose a lot of customers because of this. I plan on deleting my account completely and boycotting until you bring this back. Hopefully I will find a good alternative. Bad move, bad bad bad. I can't express how deeply disappointed I am. I have been using this Quickview app for years, it's on all of my computers, my whole family uses it, and a lot of people that I know. No one uses it on their phone or the web unless they have to. This is right up there with FourSquare/Swarm - this will be the end for Mint.
Ugh, this reeks of Intuit deciding that wonderful Mint Quickview was competing with their crappy Quicken for Mac desktop product. Quickview was exactly what I needed from a finical tracking and monitoring package. This is a sad day indeed!
“QuickView is here to stay (was running as a test) and will now cost $4.99 in the App Store,” the representative said in a statement. “Those who have already downloaded the app won’t be charged. The cost will go to support further development for this platform and beyond. Wanted to reach out to you proactively, as I’m sure the change won’t go unnoticed, and transparency is a key tenet of Mint.com.”
Why did we pay to support further development if you weren't going to do it?
I had to put a search through to figure out why Quickview wasn't working. Such a major disappointment. I can only venture a guess that they were having too many people just use that and not enough taking advantage of advertisers offers on their site. Couldn't they have integrated offers in quickview to make it monetized? This is clearly a feature many loved.
This was a terrible decision. Quickview was the entire reason I used Mint and it was hands-down the best feature of any financial app that I have seen. The iOS and website is clunky and not useful. I hate using it. The decision to end quickview makes zero sense from a customer point of view, which should be most important. Very frustrating and disappointing that Mint would make this shortsighted decision, especially when it seems they were unaware of what aspects of their software was most beneficial for its users.
This was the main reason why I used Mint: to quickly and easily search for and check transactions (using Command+Spacebar to pull up Spotlight) without needing to open a whole new tab next to my 20 other Chrome tabs. 3 months later -- I haven't used Mint nearly as much.
This post has been updated. While the new information is up at the top as well, I wanted to post this as an answer to ensure everybody is notified of the changes. Here is the updated info.
"A few weeks ago, we shared that we will be discontinuing service and support for Mint Quickview for Mac. Effective today, November 10, that service and support will end and app log-ins will result in an error message.

Since they're clearly not reading this or care whatsoever about a huge portion of their customers, perhaps we can use this forum to start discussing alternatives to Mint? I hate to go through the effort of migrating to a new platform, but sometimes that's the best option... So, what has everyone's research found?
I'm looking at the following options: -YNAB: 'You Need A Budget' https://www.youneedabudget.com Costs $60 but seems quite powerful and reviews indicate it's the best Mint replacement
Could anyone share their 'switcher' experiences with the group? Can you recommend alternatives pros/cons?
Right now it seems like YNAB may be best, the funny part is I'd happily pay the $60 if it's as good or better than Mint! Too bad Mint didn't even give us an option to pay for a better solution and to keep QuickView alive!! Really really poor leadership to have not considered this!
PLEASE BRING QUICKVIEW BACK!!!! This is how I use your service. Why would you discontinue support for this? Seems completely unnecessary. Also, if you don't want to keep developing the app, that's fine, but why purposefully make it obsolete? I would be happy to continue using the current app, even if you never made updates to it.
Agreed - the QuickView app is the only reason I used Mint. I don't see a reason to use this now. Why couldn't they just leave it alone instead of disabling it? Please bring this back!!
Wow, very disappointed by this decision, and the fact that there was no 'we are discontinuing this app' notification in the feakin notification section of the app. Just poorly done way to shutdown a product, and makes me nervous about trusting mint (trust is especially important on this app that has all my financial data). Just make a pay feature if you are running out of money to properly support this app, I'm sure many will happily pay. Will be looking into mint alternatives as others are.
@Mint Mike have you even read all these comments? your response makes you sound like you are just trying to piss people off. When I saw "***Update***" I thought that might mean you guys were actually going to bring it back, or consider bringing it back. Way to get peoples hopes up.
@garrett.bastable Do any of those alternatives have a Quickview-like app that's always logged in/updates transactions immediately on your desktop? It's hard to tell and I'm reluctant to sign up with a bunch to find out... Thanks for the help!
YNAB is awesome but it doesn't replace MINT. MINT is backward looking and MINT is forward looking (budgeting focus). We need both and we NEED QUICKVIEW for MAC to be back ONLINE!
I just found out that the Quickview stop working on my Mac a couple of days ago. Indeed, it's very inconvenient.. It's such a nice feature to monitor our finance within 1 click away.. it's sad to see that it has gone away..
As sad as I am, I am surprised to see so many angry comments and postings here. After all, it's a very nicely done FREE app and I appreciate the services that Mint has provided to us. Let's hope that Mint will bring it back in the near future.
Really stinks when a routine that worked so well is yanked out from under you. Whomever made this decision obviously never used QuickView if they consider the website or mobile apps a replacement.
I've already posted my comments regarding my disappointment with Quickview being disabled. The last few days I've been logging into Mint.com to view my accounts. I'd say at least 75% of the time, the account update process takes longer than the 10 minute auto-logoff timeout. So basically I log in and before my accounts are updated, the site logs me back out. It is, to put it mildly, maddening.
That's a measly excuse. The amount of support needed for QuickView must be minuscule. If you're not going to support QuickView, you need to replace it with something just as easy and convenient to use. You don't replace an easy to use tool that let's you click on a menu icon and immediately see your activity with the new requirement that you either go to a website, log on and wait OR go to your trusty phone, find the app and then wait for it to update.
adding another nod to keeping quickview available. I would pay for the app to cover the support necessary to keep it alive...I guess Mint just isn't setup to take money from it's user, only advertisers need apply - meh.
I'm with everyone else here. The quick view was one of the main interfaces with which I used Mint and I am annoyed that its been removed. I was NOT notified at all of it being discontinued and had to google around to find this thread. The iOS apps are completely useless and the website is slow, takes forever to update, and it full of ads. It was really nice to be able to just click and see my whole financial picture from a high level. I've been a mint user almost since the beginning but this, along with a stagnation of their platform has me seeking other alternatives.
Agreed with all the above. Quickview was a phenomenal tool that I used every single day, multiple times a day. I told all my friends and students about it as well. I am very disappointed about the way this was handled. I would be happy to pay to have this service back.
I used to only view my accounts through QuickView, so Mint is useless now :( TurboTax also had a lot of disgusting bait-and-switch stuff, but now I see the larger pattern. When my students and friends ask for financial advice, I'm telling them to stay the heck away from all Intuit products.
That said, I 100% recommend YNAB. Best $60 I ever spent. Try it free for a month and see how you like it. Also: YNAB hosts really good live budgeting "classes" every day where they give away a LOT of free copies of YNAB. So you might not have to pay $60 after all! :)
The only reason I used Mint was because of QuickView. It made the app convenient and useful. Now it's pointless. The app for iPhone has EXTREMELY EXTREMELY limited capabilities and half of the things I need to do with Mint ends up requiring that I used Mint in a browser, which is a waste of my time. Quick view streamlined everything neatly and it cut down the amount of time I needed to spend looking at Mint.
Bad decision, QuickView was vital to my Mint usage. I hope the feedback here helps the decision makers to reconsider this decision and bring it back better than ever in 2016...or else someone else will using a different service. ***Paging Credit Karma***
I just recieved an automated email today from your company asking where I have been and why I havnt logged into my account in awhile. The answer is because you took away the quickview version of your app, that was the only platform I used and I am not switching to the iOS app. I really wish you would at least let me continue to log into the quickview app, even if there will be no future updates. Bad move on your part. Ill probably leave a one star review for your iOS app too just to drive home how upset I am about your bad business choice.
Has anyone noticed a correlation when Inuit has Tried to reinvent Quicken for Mac and failed, and now that Inuit owns Mint.com, services are diminishing particularly related to Mac users and now issues with connectivity with financial institutions when they update security measures. ( it is now a month since my bank has not been able to transfer transactions To Mint)
As a prospective customer, I can certainly say that the apparent lack of a native application is extremely discouraging. I will have to think twice before considering such a service, especially given that well-used features can apparently disappear without notice.
I second what Ordine said: "I don't want to login every day to see what's going on my account." Since the android app doesn't have a widget for viewing my budget progress, I now have no way to easily keep track of my budgets.
The sad thing is I loved mint - it was so useful and such a good idea, but Intuit's lack of attention to the continuing development of this program gives its users the strong impression that it has become nothing but rejectware.
Mint Quickview provided an easy way to view and sort transactions that the IOS app does not. While I can do all those things in the Web portal it makes my workflow more complicated by having to go into a browser and login in vs using keyboard shortcuts to access the app. A others have stated I would have gladly paid for this as a premium feature and request the folks at Quicken to bring it back.
People come to Mint for help and answers—we want to let them know that we're here to listen and share our knowledge. We do that with the style and format of our responses. Here are five guidelines:
Keep it conversational. When answering questions, write like you speak. Imagine you're explaining something to a trusted friend, using simple, everyday language. Avoid jargon and technical terms when possible. When no other word will do, explain technical terms in plain English.
Be clear and state the answer right up front. Ask yourself what specific information the person really needs and then provide it. Stick to the topic and avoid unnecessary details. Break information down into a numbered or bulleted list and highlight the most important details in bold.
Be concise. Aim for no more than two short sentences in a paragraph, and try to keep paragraphs to two lines. A wall of text can look intimidating and many won't read it, so break it up. It's okay to link to other resources for more details, but avoid giving answers that contain little more than a link.
Be a good listener. When people post very general questions, take a second to try to understand what they're really looking for. Then, provide a response that guides them to the best possible outcome.
Be encouraging and positive. Look for ways to eliminate uncertainty by anticipating people's concerns. Make it apparent that we really like helping them achieve positive outcomes.

I hate to go through the effort of migrating to a new platform, but sometimes that's the best option... So, what has everyone's research found?
I'm looking at the following options:
-YNAB: 'You Need A Budget' https://www.youneedabudget.com
Costs $60 but seems quite powerful and reviews indicate it's the best Mint replacement
-Personal Capital: https://www.personalcapital.com
Free but investing-heavy
-Yodlee Money Center: https://yodleemoneycenter.com
Just starting research now, sounds like it has most of the sane features
-PowerWallet: https://www.powerwallet.com
Same, minimal research thus far

Right now it seems like YNAB may be best, the funny part is I'd happily pay the $60 if it's as good or better than Mint! Too bad Mint didn't even give us an option to pay for a better solution and to keep QuickView alive!! Really really poor leadership to have not considered this!

I would have happily paid to keep Quickview alive.

Thanks garrett.bastable for providing some alternatives :)

The Quickview App for Mac was the reason I chose Mint. I don't think I'll be sticking around.

PLEASE BRING IT BACK! It was so handy!

Why do you want to report this?
YNAB is awesome but it doesn't replace MINT. MINT is backward looking and MINT is forward looking (budgeting focus). We need both and we NEED QUICKVIEW for MAC to be back ONLINE!
The iOS app is not a suitable replacement.

Ummm, no, it was not free when I purchased it, it became free later, and now have basically taken a product I paid for away from me.

Really stinks when a routine that worked so well is yanked out from under you. Whomever made this decision obviously never used QuickView if they consider the website or mobile apps a replacement.
Why do you want to report this?
Very disappointed. I would have at least appreciated some notice. I did not receive any in the app or via email.

Please bring QuickView back!

I used this every single day. This is hugely disappointing.
Why do you want to report this?

Why do you want to report this?
Agreed with all the above. Quickview was a phenomenal tool that I used every single day, multiple times a day. I told all my friends and students about it as well. I am very disappointed about the way this was handled. I would be happy to pay to have this service back.
Why do you want to report this?
I used to only view my accounts through QuickView, so Mint is useless now :(
TurboTax also had a lot of disgusting bait-and-switch stuff, but now I see the larger pattern.
Why do you want to report this?
The only reason I used Mint was because of QuickView. It made the app convenient and useful. Now it's pointless. The app for iPhone has EXTREMELY EXTREMELY limited capabilities and half of the things I need to do with Mint ends up requiring that I used Mint in a browser, which is a waste of my time. Quick view streamlined everything neatly and it cut down the amount of time I needed to spend looking at Mint.
This is an extreme failure on Mint's part.

Ill probably leave a one star review for your iOS app too just to drive home how upset I am about your bad business choice.

good bye. Quick view was the ONLY good thing about using mint on a mac. There is no longer any point in keeping Mint.
Why do you want to report this?
No Quickview, no use for Mint. Really annoying was the time I spent trying to get it to work. You have our email, you could have sent a notice.

Mint View is used by many users, why is it so hard to assign a dedicated group of engineers to support the service??? Bring back Mint View!

As a prospective customer, I can certainly say that the apparent lack of a native application is extremely discouraging. I will have to think twice before considering such a service, especially given that well-used features can apparently disappear without notice.
Why do you want to report this?
I second what Ordine said: "I don't want to login every day to see what's going on my account." Since the android app doesn't have a widget for viewing my budget progress, I now have no way to easily keep track of my budgets.
The sad thing is I loved mint - it was so useful and such a good idea, but Intuit's lack of attention to the continuing development of this program gives its users the strong impression that it has become nothing but rejectware.

Bummer! From a long-term mint.com user. Did you ask you customers?

Check out https://balancemy.money. It is subscription-based, but a worthy alternative to QuickView.
Why do you want to report this?
Mint Quickview provided an easy way to view and sort transactions that the IOS app does not. While I can do all those things in the Web portal it makes my workflow more complicated by having to go into a browser and login in vs using keyboard shortcuts to access the app. A others have stated I would have gladly paid for this as a premium feature and request the folks at Quicken to bring it back.
